Our meeting on Saturday 30 January was a great success. Twenty-two people came along to learn more about tinnitus and to share their experiences with the group.

Our guest speaker was Malcolm Calvert of Tai Chi 4 Health and Wellbeing. Malcolm has spoken to us before, and we were delighted to invite him back for a return visit. This time he spoke mainly about Chi Kung (Qigong), Jin shin jyustsu and The Healing Trust, demonstrating exercises which might help people cope better with tinnitus. These included massaging techniques around the face and ears, neck and shoulder exercises, and deep abdominal breathing
. The emphasis was on doing everything slowly and gently. Many of us find that tiredness makes our tinnitus seem worse, so learning to relax is crucial.

The Healing Trust is a non-religious organisation promoting Spiritual Healing techniques. Malcolm asked for a volunteer
and spent several minutes working to bring energy from outside and pass it into her – without any actual bodily contact. She reported that, although she did not notice any change in her tinnitus, she felt calm and relaxed – even though she knew everyone was watching her! Malcolm emphasised that this sort of treatment must be carried out by a trained healer, which need not be expensive. More information about the Healing Trust can be found here.

Malcolm’s talk was very well-received and held the interest of everyone.
