Emma began with a few definitions: What is telehealth? What kind of applications and services can be delivered by telehealth technology? What are the benefits and drawbacks associated with telehealth specifically in an audiology setting? She then drew our attention to several of the more interesting and important apps that have been developed to help people with their tinnitus and hearing loss. These ranged from sound enrichment and hearing test applications to stress and mood tracking devices and tools which monitor blood pressure and sleep patterns. Emma concluded her talk by looking at possible future developments in this area.
Several members of our group have expressed an interested in participating in Emma’s research project. Basically, this will involve being interviewed in a group setting and giving your thoughts and feeling on how acceptable telehealth technology might be to you in an audiology setting.
Emma has kindly made her presentation available to us as a slide show. Have a look and see what you think. It was a really interesting talk on a topic that is likely to become increasingly relevant in the future, and we’re grateful to Emma for giving up a gloriously sunny weekend morning to come and speak to us.
