A small committee has been formed to organise and co-ordinate the running of the group. The following offices/roles have been filled:
The office of Treasurer is currently unfilled. Ann is acting as temporary treasurer.
ATTENDANCE: The inaugural meeting of the group took place on Saturday 28th September at the Bedhampton Social Hall. Twenty-six people attended, including representatives from several local organisations such as the Sensory Team at Hampshire Adult Services and the Brendoncare Hard of Hearing Club. Also present was Jan Petty from the New Forest Tinnitus Support Group, who offered lots of very welcome advice on setting up and running a tinnitus support group.
VENUE: The Bedhampton Social Hall was a good venue – easy to get to and with superb facilities - but the main hall proved a little too echoey and bigger than needed. For future meetings we will book one of the smaller rooms at the Bedhampton Hall.
FORMAT: For part of the meeting we broke into small groups of five people. This format worked well, and everyone appreciated being able to chat with others about their tinnitus and to share experiences. We also canvassed opinions on the future direction of the group and what in general people felt we should be doing at the meetings.
WELCOME PACK: All attendees received a welcome pack containing a miscellany of brochures and information leaflets about tinnitus. Refreshments were available!
COMMITTEE: A small steering committee is being formed to organise and co-ordinate the running of the group.
All in all, the first meeting was very lively and full of encouraging signs for the future of the SE Hants Tinnitus Support Group.
