Our speaker this time was Frances Inge, chief audiologist at Portsmouth Hospitals and a member of our Support Group committee. Frances gave an interesting talk on the auditory system and the way it interacts with the brain and the nervous system. We also learnt about several on-going research projects looking into the causes and treatment of tinnitus.
Most of the talk, though, was given over to questions from the group. Frances was quite happy to answer all our queries on a variety of topics ranging from botox treatment and disorders of the jaw joint and neck, through to grommets, hearing aids and relaxation techniques. Nothing stumped her! Everyone thought this informal style worked very well, and we might adopt this 'open' approach for the occasional meeting in future.
The meeting closed with the usual refreshments, and an opportunity to study our extensive range of information leaflets and borrow from our equipment and resource library.
