Our speaker this time was Frances Inge. Frances spoke to our group back in July of last year, and we were keen to invite her back for another session. Frances is Chief Audiologist at Portsmouth NHS Trust and also a committee member of our Tinnitus Support Group.
As expected, it was a fantastic talk. She began by explaining to us how the ear works and how auditory signals are coded by the brain. This was followed by an overview of the various theories that have been advanced over the years to explain the phenomenon of tinnitus. Frances spoke about the different types of tinnitus, and the range of professional and self-help interventions that are available to help manage and cope with the condition.
It was a very positive talk, full of useful information, and delivered with real authority. The talk ended with a lively Question and Answer session. Shortly, we hope to put up a slide show from Frances’s talk.
Then it was into the lounge for refreshments and a chat, and a chance to browse the equipment available for loan in our resource library.
All round, a splendid meeting, and our thanks to Frances for another stimulating talk.
