The meeting opened with the announcement that our Group has been chosen as the local charity for Cams Hall Golf Club in Fareham in 2015. Maggie Millard, a member of the Club, and her daughter, were invited along to our meeting, and Maggie spoke a few words about the Club and their plans for fundraising on our behalf. This is really fantastic news and we are grateful to Maggie and her colleagues for their generosity and support.
Our speaker this time was Josephine Swinhoe, Managing Director of the Tinnitus Clinic, an independent audiological practice and a leading provider of the latest tinnitus treatments in the UK.
Josephine began by recounting her personal experience of tinnitus, explaining how this had triggered her involvement in healthcare work and how it continues to influence her work at the Clinic.
We learnt about the latest assessment and treatment options provided by the Clinic, especially Tinnitus Desensitisation Therapy (TDT) and the Acoustic Neuromodulation treatment which was first developed in Germany. The Clinic is involved in the real-life testing of new treatments and therapies, and looks to partner with the NHS to provide affordable and scientifically-based solutions to tinnitus and other hearing-related conditions.
Josephine welcomed our questions and answered a range of queries relating to medical insurance, hearing aid prescription, aspirin, and healthcare spending. It was an engaging, extremely interesting and informative talk, and a high point on which to close our speaker diary for 2014. Our thanks to Josephine for making the journey down to Hampshire on a chilly December weekend to speak to us. A link to the Tinnitus Clinic has been added to our Links page,
